Add an MX record

MX records tell receiving servers where to deliver email for your domain. Priority numbers decide which mail host is tried first (lower numbers are higher priority).

  1. Sign in and open DNS for the domain.
  2. Select Add and choose MX.
  3. Set the host to @ unless your provider specifies otherwise.
  4. Enter the mail server hostname and priority exactly as your email host lists them.
  5. Add additional MX rows if the provider publishes backups.
  6. Remove outdated MX records that point at a previous host, then save.
Note: MX targets should be hostnames, not IP addresses. Pair MX with SPF (TXT) for better deliverability.
